Julian Wessels
Sound Artist
Julian Wessels is an award winning immersive sound artist based in Sydney. His pieces centre around the play between sound and space, with the majority of his works crafted specifically for a given location. Working on projects like Jonathan Jones’ ‘Giran’ (ASSG Award for Best Sound for Interactive Media), Julian has been able to work with some of the countries leading institutions to deliver stunning audio content throughout Australia. From data driven musical compositions to realistic audio narratives and otherworldly sonic landscapes, his work has been heard at The National Museum of Australia, The State Library of New South Wales, The Waltzing Matilda Center, The Australian War Memorial, The Art Gallery of South Australia and The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. After being selected in the inaugural Powerhouse Creative Industry Residency program in 2020, Julian has based his practise in the North Annex of the Museum where his research focuses on interactive media and creative implementation of new spacial audio technologies.
